If you are travelling to the United States, you must carry the majority of your currency in the form of a forex card. Forex cards are widely regarded as the most secure method of carrying foreign currency. They are similar to prepaid VISA/ Mastercard cards in that they can contain a single currency or multiple currencies. It is recommended that you carry 70% of your total amount in a forex card and the remaining 30% in cash, which can be used to pay for small expenses

As per RBI regulations, cash payment is permitted only if the total sale amount is below ₹50,000 for a single journey. If the amount equals or exceeds ₹50,000 (whether in a single drawl or multiple drawls for the same trip), cash is not allowed. In such cases, you must use other approved payment methods such as crossed cheque, electronic funds transfer, banker’s cheque, pay order, demand draft, or eligible debit/credit/prepaid cards under compliance norms.

For purchasing forex there is no convenience fees charged by Thomas Cook. The only additional charges will be the GST amount on forex services and payment processing fees (in case of Net Banking and Credit/Debit Card).

Foreign exchange, or forex, is the process of converting one currency into another at an agreed exchange rate. It supports international travel, trade, investment, and cross-border payments. In financial markets, forex also refers to trading currency pairs such as EUR/USD, where one currency is exchanged against another.

Foreign currency is the official currency of a country other than the one in which it is used, held or exchanged. For instance, the US dollar and euro are considered foreign currencies in India. Foreign currencies are commonly used for international trade, travel, overseas investments and cross-border transactions.

The major currencies traded in the forex market include the US dollar (USD), euro (EUR), Japanese yen (JPY), British pound (GBP), Swiss franc (CHF), Canadian dollar (CAD), Australian dollar (AUD) and New Zealand dollar (NZD). These currencies are widely traded because they represent large, developed economies and generally offer high market liquidity.

Yes, forex exchange is legal in India, but it is regulated under FEMA and RBI rules. Indian residents may undertake permitted forex transactions only through RBI-authorised persons and authorised electronic platforms or recognised stock exchanges such as NSE, BSE and MSE. Trading through unauthorised forex platforms may attract legal action.

A forex rate is determined by the relative value of one currency against another in the foreign exchange market. It is influenced by demand and supply, interest rates, inflation, economic performance, central bank policies and market sentiment. The quoted rate shows how much of the second currency is required to buy one unit of the first.

The best place to exchange foreign currency is through an RBI-authorised forex provider that offers transparent rates and secure transactions. In India, travellers can use Thomas Cook Forex to buy or sell foreign currency online, with options such as doorstep delivery or branch pickup, depending on availability and applicable requirements.

Foreign currency can be exchanged in India through RBI-authorised forex providers such as Thomas Cook Forex. Customers can select the required currency and amount, provide travel and identification details, choose home delivery or branch pickup where available, and complete payment. The transaction is then processed at the applicable exchange rate.

To buy forex for international travel in India, you generally need a valid passport, a valid visa, a confirmed air ticket and a PAN card.
